First day of Shooting
Our first day of shooting was pretty underwhelming because I wasn't able to really participate since most of the shooting would be done in Joel's house so instead I was in a group FaceTime with both Ricardo and Joel, In the first picture above we are trying to portray him as the main character of our film. He is supposed to be wearing a plain black t-shirt with black headphones on to show him while he's in in pajamas sleeping in his bed. We are supposed to record him on his bed and simultaneously jolted awake by the sound of an alarm. Our group decided to do the recording at night of Joel in his bed because we wanted his room to be dark so it makes the surroundings fit the over all mood we are trying to go for as described in previous blogs. This was all done to satisfy the mise-en-scene because it would be too much of a hassle to come to his house in the middle of the night to capture footage for our project.
The first shot we attempted to capture was a medium shot of Joel laying on his bed, it took Ricardo so long to capture an actual usable footage because Joel kept on making absurd faces and laying there for too long because we couldn't figure out how to work the clock he had laying by the dresser next to his bed. It was a fun experience for all three of us because we have never actually filmed something of this style before, after taking 30 minutes on the first shot we continued to help Joel improve his acting skills because they were pretty bad. We tried to make professional looking panning movements with the camera but it took a while because it would never go as smooth as we panned it to go so that took another hefty chunk of our time.
This third pic is just us on FaceTime, both Joel and Ricardo didn't want to be in the picture because they were on hold and they were filming so it was only me on camera and unfortunately the wifi was really bad and sometimes we couldn't hear what we were saying on the other end but this just so reminded me that I can incorporate my lavalier microphone into the whole recording process so that the sound quality for the audience would sound significantly better ( at least better than the voices on the laggy FaceTime calls ). After that Ricardo was taking his sweet time trying to record our next shot for Joel too after a while we decided to just add in a POV shot of the main character so that we can film faster as well as allow the audience to be more aware of Joel ( aka the main characters view of his life) We made sure to dim the lights more than usual because we want to show just how stressed and miserable most teenagers feel on a Monday morning before school.
These two pictures are a little sneak peek for what we will record later on ( probably in school ) Joel shows us his back pack that he will be wearing on his way in the car and inside the classroom. We have yet to have to chance to record the one during school yet because we have minimal classes together so it would be weird for all of us to just be recording out of the blue in some teacher's class, what I have planned is for us to all meet up after school ends at 2:40 and ask teachers if we are allowed to film in their class for this project. But to sum it up we filmed for around 2 hours and now we are half way done and I edited for about an hour and 30 minutes (:
