Blog post 7

 The mise-en-scene is the overall visual or contribution towards the overall atmosphere of a production. The word is french and basically translate to placing on a stage. Through setting, lighting, costume and staging this presents throughout the whole show, the different elements come together to create the feeling that the producing was aim for. 

The setting of the movie I was watching is located in the castle/estate of a 15th century monarch's residence in England, it is obvious that the surroundings will be drastically different from the things that most people would typically see on a daily basis but with the correct setting and design the interpretation of the episode is displayed wonderfully. The movie genre is romance and heartbreak and through the different scenes the producer displayed the happiness and joy the main characters went through slowly moving towards to arguments and anger, ending with heartbroken and sadness. The soft and floral surroundings went to bold colors like royal blue, dark red, and dark green, After the arguments when everything was dulled down you tend to see more grey and black because of the gloomy storyline and disappointment at the end. The settings contributed to why I liked the movie because it helps bring out more emotions and feelings towards the film.

Additionally, the lighting of the film definitely contributed towards the overall feel due to how the lights hit the characters, when they are presumably lightened up more the viewer sees and acknowledges the gleeful scene, later on it would get dimmer and sometimes just overall dark as the Queen miscarries her child over and over again. The lighting adds to the overall sad feel thats prorated by the producer and defined the genre with the different lighting tones with how the mood is presented. It made me like the movie more because the lighting added more emotions that might not have been exaggerated to the extend it did if they didn't have it. 

The costume of the film is one of the most important part of the mise-en-scene in my opinion because they were so elegant and beautifully detailed/designed. In the beginning when she wore her white + baby blue dress it portrayed her youth, arrogance, and innocence before all the drama. While later on when the king and queen ascended the throne, they wore an intimidating red color that shows off all the pride and power they hold at the moment. Towards the end when she was about to divorce her husband she shows her disappointment  and grievance through the black nun dress she wore. It certainly helped defined the genre from the costumes mainly due to the colors and style, this made me enjoy the move way more because most certainly it is beautiful but also they are perfectly made for every scene.

All in all the mise-en-scene being put together made the film so much more enjoyable, because of the way it brings out the emotions and portrays the character's feelings in such an undetectable way for the average person. The little things that bring out the movie
